Andy Dufresne (played by Tim Robbins), a successful banker, is wrongly convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. He is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary, where he befriends fellow inmate Ellis "Red" Redding (played by Morgan Freeman). Despite the harsh realities of prison life, Andy never loses hope and finds ways to survive and ultimately escape.
