The film takes place in the 1970s and follows the story of two teenage friends, Alessandro (Emile Hirsch) and Piero (Ben Foster), who are on a road trip from Italy to the United States. Along the way, they pick up a young woman named Francesca (Olivia Wilde) and her friend. The four of them get into various misadventures, and Alessandro and Francesca start to develop feelings for each other.
